Premium  rooftop living for weekenders and off-gridders

Carefully curated - we only work with the best

Recommended and used by us!

Listen, there's no shortage of "copy/paste" camping and rooftop tent options out there. What's important to us is aligning ourselves with the brands that complement Judge&Co. Brands that have proven longevity in their feild. Brands that have high quality and robustness at the fore. Brands that we would use ourselves.

We also get that not everyone's budget or intentions are the same. Not everyone is planning to hit the road for weeks at a time. Families need to prioritise sleeping space in comparison to a couple or single person. Not everyone wants to chop the roof off an expensive vehicle.

There's no cookie cutter solution that works for every situation. We need to ensure we have available, an appropriate solution for a broad range of customer requirements.

Overlanding, Touring or Weekend Warrior

Vehicle based adventuring comes in all shapes and sizes. There's a whole lot of things to take into account when you are thinking about your project. Are we simply taking the kids away for a few days or are we hitting "the old dusty" for a month or two? How comfortable do I want to be? How much stuff am I taking? What is my budget?

All relevant questions. You may already have the answer to most of them. Let's delve a little deeper into the various options for rooftop living.

Whats the easiest solution for rooftop living?

Easy, Rooftop Tents

By far the easiest and most cost effective way to add some rooftop living to your vehicle is with a rooftop tent. These mount to your vehicles roof, Ute tray or canopy. A simple but effective option.

Within this genre we have the "soft shell" and "hard/clam shell" options. The former offering great value for money but slower setup times. and the later offering super quick setup, a "hard" or solid shell or frame, meaning additional load bars and storage can be added ontop of the tent shell itself.

Feldon Shelter

New Zealand original rooftop tent company. Feldon has longstanding and proven record within New Zealand, becoming a household name thanks to their eye for detail and quality. With distributors in Japan, Greece and Australia. Feldon is fast becoming internationally recognised as a leader in their field.

The Crows Nest range is their "soft shell" offering. These are available in three different sizes and two different colourways. Along with additional accessories like "bonus room" for additional enclosed space.

The Hawks Nest range is their "hard shell" offering. Available in three differing size "end opener" options and one "side opener" option. Again, two colourway options are available. Additional accessories like load bars and such are also available.

Alucab

A true leader and innovator in the overlanding space. Based in Cape Town, South Africa, all design, production and testing takes place locally.

Within their rooftop tent range they offer only "hard shell" options. Ranging from their flagship GEN3-R and super lightweight LT-50, through to their new RT-2S and RT-4S.

A focus on quality and durability, along with being weight conscious and effortless to set up - Alucab is truly a lader in the rooftop living space.

I'm interested in something a bit more...full on?

Meet, the "Drop on" Camper

The drop on Camper (or, Canopy Camper as it's widely known) is definitely a bit more "full on". These feature a canopy with a roof tent integrated, allowing standing height from within your Ute tray. Add to this a Judge&Co fitout and you've successfully converted the back of your Ute into a Campervan!

Feldon Shelter

The newest innovation to come out of the Feldon stables is their Eagles Nest Canopy Camper.

Simple, roomy and surprisingly affordable.

Alucab

With a large range of options from their original Canopy Camper Basic, through to the Khaya and ModCap ranges - Alucab has something for every requirement.

These are made to order and can carry an extended leadtime to get to New Zealand.

I'm really into the idea chopping my roof off...

Now we're talking!

The final frontier of rooftop living is the roof conversion, commonly known as a "pop top". This type of setup is a "no going back now" situation as, no matter the brand, the roof skin has to be cut off for the installation process to take place. Originally popular with Landrover Defender 110s and Toyota Landcruiser Troopys, there are now plenty off options for these vehicles along with many other 4x4 Wagons and even Vans.

Due to the modification to the vehicle's body, a LVVTA certification must also take place. Luckily, we've done this quite a few times, using various brands, so safe to say we have the whole process sorted now!

Headspace

A premium Australian made product with a vast array of vehicle applications. We are stoked to bring Headspace to NZ!

Starting out with their own Defender 110 conversion, things quickly spiralled in to a conversion option for the cult classic Troopy and things just kept going from there. Options for multiple Landcruiser variants have also been added, 76 Series, 60 and 80 Series (100 Series due soon), along with the Ineos Grenadier. Our absolute favorite is the Hiace H300 conversion. Their own 4x4 converted Hiace demo rig is possibly the coolest adventure rig out there.

Alucab

As market leaders, of course Alucab has roof conversion options.

Alucab have basically pushed this space forward over the years. With variants for Defender 110, Landcruiser 76 Series and Troopy - and more recently, adding an Ineos Grenadier conversion. The usual Alucab quality and attention to detail are present and at the fore, aling with their focus on durability. It's all there and ready to make your ultimate adventure rig dreams come true.

Mulgo

Mulgo gives us another great option for your overland or touring project.

The quiet achiever in the roof conversion space have been punching out roof conversions for Defender and Troopy in their Sydney based workshop for over 16 years. With other makes/models also now available, Mulgo is only available in NZ through us. Low-profile integration, intentional serviceability and 16+ years, field-proven!
